LISTENING VS. HEARING
This lecture was focusing on different aspects on listening and general knowledge of sound, anatomically and from an editing standpoint. The difference between hearing and listening was discussed and established that hearing is the action of physically perceiving a sound with your ears and listening is more of an intentional action and you make a conscious decision to do it. With deep listening, it’s more interpreting what you’re listening to and following a procedure of investigation. In an interview for example, in order to fully engage with your subject, hearing would not be the protocol. Listening and/or deep listening would facilitate the process of what you want to be presented in the interview, or how you want your subject to be presented.
SOUND
Being lectured on the terminology on ear anatomy confused me. Even from an audio editing perspective, why do we need to know this? Can it be applied to our project briefs? How can discussing the experience of sound from a physiological standpoint help when the only experience we’re going to have is from a technical standpoint?
