First class of my first studio of this degree. Other than getting acquainted with everyone, not much was discussed in detail. It was a tad confusing getting used to everything since not everything (in terms of assignments and the rest of the semester…) was available at the time so we actually ended up leaving early. Though what was assigned was our studio’s first weekly update. It was assigned to Serena and I. Was a bit blindsided but got everything handed in on time! First editing gig of the semester so it felt nice to get the hang of Premiere all over again since I haven’t touched it since last semester.
The second day of class we went to visit Gertrude Contemporary. It was in exhibition in Fitzroy that mostly held contemporary art, mainly taking on the evolution of technology and internet over the past decade. Aside from getting the hint of nostalgia and feeling like I’ve aged 10 more years, I found the rest of the art oddly disturbing and confusing. Only one piece of art stood out to me, which was mainly consisting of pulverised DVDR’s on a lilac/violet coloured acrylic canvas. It reminded me of a night sky, as well as the static you receive on TV sets from the early 90’s.
Though we haven’t been assigned the artist’s we have to make portraits for from this studio, I hope that I don’t have the same interpretation as I did from the art in the exhibition because I feel like I’ll have extreme difficulty with my perceptions.
Here’s to a wonderful semester!
