BLOG POSTING
This week, we reviewed how we’re using our blogs and the volume and quality that is expected from the course. I am using links and heavily using tags due to my own experience in keeping a personal blog. I find tags incredibly helpful and I like being hyper organised when it comes to keeping a blog or a website. In my experience in keeping a blog for my diploma (I kept 3 at a time) I was heavily reliant on tags and it’s a habit I’d like to keep.
I feel like I’m struggling to talk in high volume in these posts and mostly post small chunks. I’ll try to improve but until I feel like the content is more engaging, I don’t think that will change any time soon.
However, I could use my boredom to my advantage. I feel like the content so far have been less engaging than the content I was learning in my diploma at QIBT (now Griffith College.) From now on, I’ll try and still write about how I am feeling about the lectures and workshops, positive and negative. (Apologies.)
NOTICING
Noticing ads, breaking down the main aspects of the ad and finding meaning can only be useful to a certain extent. I understand that disciplined noticing might help within the right context, such as working in the advertising industry, or what we’re asked to do for our blogs. But outside that, it’s nearly useless. Half the time, the meaning that is evaluated behind an ad or piece of media does not get throughly translated to the consumer. I believe that most of the time it’s merely glanced at from an objective point of view and does not connect with the consumer on a deeper level. We can’t analyse an advertisement the same way we analyse a film or a professional photograph. The sole purpose of an ad is not to invoke an emotional and psychological shift, but to sell and make a profit. If it does invoke an emotional response, it’s simply a more manipulative manner in dragging you in to purchase an item. Nothing is truly sentimental in the advertising industry.
NARRATIVE/STORY-TELLING
The execution of a story is vitally important depending on what moral or idea you want to come across from the narrative. I’m not entirely sure what I want to communicate with my subject for our next project brief but as the video editing progresses, I feel like it will become clear and I will follow the flow of what the subject wants their self to come across as to my audience.
