I found it quite exciting that haikus were a focus for an exercise this week. I always found that haikus were not only beautiful, but also if kept within the constraints, anything can be considered poetry. An example from my earlier high school years was a haiku that a couple of seniors wrote as a gag.
Octopus swimming
Blinding sunlight all around
It’s time to run fast
I found it so amazing that this ancient form of Japanese poetry was being used with such hilarious motive that it became a little hobby of mine to make haikus out of silly things, and became quite proud when it fit it’s required constraints. Especially in the game ‘Cards Against Humanity’ where they actually require you to make a haiku out of the cards given.
