Merit Equity Film Comp

Merit Equity is running a competition which may be of interest to your advertising and film students. We are looking for students to create short films to promote our program and the issues we are hoping to address. There are some great prizes to be won: $3,000 for first place, $1,000 for second and an iPad 2 for third.

Merit Equity is an initiative which aims to soon provide private sector funding to university students who are struggling to make ends meet. So the film could promote our business directly or indirectly by, for example, emphasising the need for more student funding.

This is great opportunity for students to develop their skills in an industry context and get their work noticed. If you think this is something your students would be interested in, please let us know and we’ll be happy to send you some flyers or posters to hand out (also see PDF attached). Alternatively, you can direct them to our website for more details (http://www.meritequity.com.au/movie-competition.html).

Bright Young Things

Bright Young Things is all about recognising and celebrating our young undiscovered Australian film making talent. It is a showcase and networking opportunity that will include the screening of 10 short films by the best new talent, followed by drinks and introductions of showcased talent to industry attendees.

I would also be incredibly grateful if you could inform your students of the festival and encourage them to enter.

Up and coming street magazine written by students

My name’s Ella and I’m currently collaborating with a few RMIT students in a variety of disciplines to create and eventually publish a street magazine that will go by the name of “Stalker”. The magazine will be written by people aged 18-24 and is focussed on Melbourne’s youth art and culture scene. Think art, photography, fashion, music reviews (a combination of the magazine “Frankie” and “Russh”) I send this to you all as an opportunity to be involved in something really creative and potentially really successful. I have done street zine’s in the past and they have all been extremely well received. (MOKO magazine 2009, www.myspace.com/therealmokomagazine). If anyone is interested in being a part of the magazine as a contributor (art, articles etc.) then I’d love to be contacted at either stalkerzine@gmail.com

Sattya Media Arts Collective

Sattya Media Arts Collective is a resource network for artists, writers, filmmakers, photographers, and other creative types of people in Nepal. It aspires to be a hub for DIY culture, collaboration, inspiration, and learning for emerging media artists.
But more than providing resources, Sattya also aims to inspire social and personal change though the sharing of stories in Nepal. Our vision is two fold:
By supporting emerging media makers, we hope that they will be able to tell the stories that matter to them in whichever medium they work in.
By promoting media arts, we hope to bring about new perspectives, creativity, and dialogue among people.
We aim to create a future where media creation is accessible to people from different backgrounds, a community in which we can learn from and support each other, and an environment where independent media artists can thrive.
