Just thinking about ways to approach the next project. I’m trying to narrow down what I will be focusing on. After the last exercise i’m wondering if I should do a study of people. After seeing someone transform in front of a camera and speak so much without moving or talking, I’m keen to follow this idea through and see how much information I can give a viewer just by following the journey of one person perhaps as they just do every day things. I’m wondering weather or not I should start with a location or a person. A location, or character study. I’m reluctant to start with a whole idea, I like the idea of exploring form and content as I go. But we do have to present an idea in class that people want to work on. I should chose a subject that I have access to soon and start thinking about how I can capture them best in their own environment.

I also like the idea of exploring the organic nature of something. As in, not going in with a preconceived idea but rather spending more time exploring subjects as they naturally exist and see what develops from this. See what story or themes or feelings come through this. I could choose a few different subjects like both a person and a location. I don’t think I’ll go with an actor, I think I’ll see who from my everyday life also makes this shift with the camera on them. It’s almost like they speak more or are more comfortable with a camera present like it’s a totally natural thing for them. The supermarket idea was …interesting. I did go and take some photos in there and clip together a small video of the images almost ‘Andy Warhol’ style with a focus on branding and product marketing. But I got the feeling I wasn’t really allowed to take photos in there and at the end I was asked to leave the supermarket. So probably not the best location to shoot in, too many hoops. I do like the idea of exploring a characters inner monologue as a comedic concept but after seeing Sam’s inner monologue in the exercise, talking isn’t really necessary and for this semester I can care less about doing something ‘funny’ and focus more on beauty, form and aesthetic qualities.
