Yep, i’m a learner when it comes to filming with a DSLR.
Here are some good videos for how to get the ‘cinematic’ look when filming.
The ‘cinematic’ look basically means a sharp, detailed image, with a very shallow depth of field.
This is what i’ve gathered.
1. Low ISO: 100 – 200 in sunlight, 200 – 400 in cloudy weather.
2. Frame rate of 24fps (check your settings)
2. Shutter speed of 50: that’s double the 24fps frame rate. If you have a high shutter speed, moving action will be jumpy.
3. Aperture low as possible, between 1 – 4. (This will create a shallow depth of field, but will make your shot over exposed).
4. Use a ND filter (neutral density) to counteract this problem.
Open to being totally wrong about this info, so let me know if you think otherwise.
And this one is good for a Canon 700d, which is what I have.
And for more info on ND Filters.
Will report back with my own footage soon.
