This week involved our class presentations and also some snippets/discussion of vampire flicks, as I was away for this discussion, and also focused on vampire flicks for my first exegesis, this weeks blog will focus on the class presentations/ideas for coming projects, with only a touch on my favourite vampire films.
This week was a cool week to see everyones ideas in formulation. There was a wide variety of genres and ideas/themes/breaking down of conventions and mixing of genres. It was an interesting listen, and I would love to see some of the outcomes. My chosen genre for PB3 (and probably 4) is musical. The musical is a new fascination of mine. Before this studio I had no interest in musicals. I don’t know what sparked this new found interest. I think it started when I was thinking about breaking/twisting the conventions of genre. I started thinking about twisting the conventions of the musical. I got excited because I love music and I love film. I particularly love how music expresses emotion in film. I’ve always wanted to unite music with film, but it never occurred to me to make a musical. One of the panel members mentioned I should watch some Elvis musicals for my rock ‘n’ roll musical, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), and The Blues Brothers (1980) for my final musical, which will be looking at using unconventional genres of music in musicals. For my final project brief I am now thinking about filming a few short fictional pieces about the lives of people who live in Melbourne, and using Melbourne bands as my source of music.
Moving on to vampire flicks
