Active Audiences part 2

Here is another example of the the active audience of today. My group for PB4 told me about a Youtuber (PewDiePie) who became famous for posting Youtubes of himself playing/reviewing video games. You probably have heard of him, I’m quite out of the loop with these things.  I thought this was an interesting example of active audiences today. Under the broadcasting view the of the audience, users were considered to passively consume media. With the current media technologies used in gaming, game audiences have surpassed participators and have now become creators, producers, and so forth.

PewDiePie has risen to youtube stardome for posting videos of himself playing/reviewing video games. He now has a massive audience and following of his own. He is the currently the most celebrated youtuber in all respects.  I asked my group why they liked watching him play and they said that it was because the way he played was funny and creative. It is after all the player who breathes life into the game (Behrenshausen, 2012).
