This was taken on Bourke St. I am generally interested in advertising, and how the codes and and signs of advertising speak to the consumer. In this advert the models appear to be cat walking down the shop front of David Jones. But behind them are realistic cardboard cutouts of people using media. Are they capturing the ‘models’ or the people passing by i.e us? Are they judging, photographing, talking about the models or us? Is it the models being instructed to walk straight or the real people? Why are the people walking past so captivated? Do they feel up to standard? Are they dressed well enough for their personal runway? Or do they feel lesser, inadequate? Do they walk bent, or crooked? If so, how can they “fix” that feeling?
