One idea which was introduced in this reading was Drama and the Three Act Structure. The ancient Greeks devised the three act structure which is a tool used to organise story elements. The three act structure is as follows…

  1. Act one establishes the set up. This includes characters, situations and the main problem the character/s will need to face.
  2. Act two heightens the complications the characters are trying to overcome.
  3. Act three intensifies the complication to the point of climax or confrontation. This is followed by a resolution which does not necessarily have to be happy so long as it still satisfies viewers.

This is the basic structure of numerous films.
