After our lecture this week I decided to take five minutes out of my day to sit and listen. I wanted to listen to everything around me and try to take notice of all those sounds I usually ignore. Here is what I heard…

  • Birds
  • Cars
  • Breathing
  • My dog walking around the house
  • Garden tools and lawn mowers
  • Wind through the trees
  • The hum of my computer
  • A plane flying past

I hear all of these things every day and yet I do not really notice them as I am to preoccupied with other things. Our ears hear everything and converts these sounds into electrical signals which are processed by the brain. Therefore it is our brain which determine which sounds are more important than others. This is how we discard somethings because we see them as being less important than others. Consequently, I find it interesting to sit and just listen to whats around you every so often because you start to realise everything you previously missed
