W7. Critique of own video. I am quite proud of this video. (Yes, I am pretty much just choosing to blog about the sketch videos I am proud of.)
WHAT I LIKE:
- Creative interpretation of the brief – not just shadow shapes in light. But light shapes in shadow. Use of mirror reflection. Use of refraction (shone a torch through a triangular glass thing).
- Beautiful to look at – diamond-like light moving and changing shape. Quite hypnotic.
- The first shot and the last shot are from the same part, except the last shot reveals the shape of the hand holding the glass object. I like this as an ‘ending’.
- The fade transitions work for this because the whole idea is transitioning – transitioning shapes, transitioning light into reflections, transitioning light shape to/from shadow shape. And I like how the transitions from shot to shot are almost missable because the shots are so abstractly changing themselves.
WHAT I DON’T LIKE:
- I didn’t get to show all of the awesome footage of crazy light-shadow-reflection-shape-making.
- It doesn’t feel particularly structured – except for the final shot. It moves a little too quickly and then finishes and the structure gets lost.
- THE DAMN PURPLE TINT. My phone doesn’t do too well in low light conditions.
Overall: Really like this vid. One of my faves. Check it out.
