So, week one is done and dusted, and it feels like no time has passed since we were last in these classrooms, yet the faces are different, the lessons are new, and I am determined not to repeat the mistakes I made last semester. ‘To err once is human, to err twice is when you know you have to get your shit together’. I think thats how the saying goes.

Going into this semester I feel like my key challenge will be time, specifically a lack of it. Ive got classes, extra curriculars, I joined a gym, my job, my friends. Even writing out my schedule makes me feel cramped, but I’ve found a tool that helps me deal with this pressure. Like most of the deeper life lessons I’ve absorbed throughout my life, this one comes from my martial arts. When in the dojo, we begin each class with meditation, leaving behind all outside pressures and influences and focusing entirely on our goals for that night. To quote from a wise man, ‘Never half-ass two things, whole-ass one thing’. This semester my focus will be on being 100% focussed on the task at hand, in order to not get overwhelmed like last semester.

Other lessons learnt I will be implementing this semester are:

-Take initiative. Things are not going to be laid out for you neatly, you have to go get them yourself.

-Doing the bare minimum will get you the bare minimum result

-Chai lattes are way better than mochas
