Synthetic Video Reflection Week 5

This week, I learned a lot of essential knowledge, and the most impressive to me is the application of virtual production technology in filmmaking. We investigated the methods of virtual production employed in TV shows like “The Mandalorian,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” and the impending “Ahsoka” series. These methods not only provide filmmakers with more artistic freedom, but they also vastly improve the realism of visual effects. I understand how virtual production utilizes advanced computer graphics technology and special effects synthesis to blend the real and virtual worlds, creating astonishing visual effects. Furthermore, the course also extensively examined the crucial role of lighting in filmmaking. Different colors, brightness levels, and angles of lighting convey diverse emotions, painting vivid emotional atmospheres for the audience. I intend to actively incorporate this technique in my A2 project, using various lighting setups to convey my desired visual language more intuitively.

Additionally, we talked about the core ideas of immersive art and how virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies can revolutionize the film industry. I developed a stronger grasp of how to use these technologies in films and how immersive art produces a sense of presence. The XR immersive films and projection mapping showcased at the 2023 Melbourne International Film Festival are new trends in the field of filmmaking, offering significant inspiration for my future learning and creative endeavors.
