09 Unlecture

I don’t think I was concentrating particularly well this week, because I can’t seem to remember a helluva lot about the actual Unlecture. There was Adrian’s assertion that shelf space was the most expensive item in the shop, which was pretty interesting, and an involved discussion about the music of Katy Perry, again, interesting.

I think what most piqued my interest, however, was the discussion revolving around the concept of scaled networks and scale-free networks, and of the hubs that exist within these networks. I seem to work best with analogies, so the idea of the central station in these scaled networks was great. Scale-free networks, however, are harder because of their unrestricted nature – the idea that particular sites (like Reddit) have thousands of links ending to and from them, acting as hubs in this crazy spider-web of a network, is an interesting one. Well, not that interesting.
