Over the mid-semester break our group planned and filmed our advanced video piece for the class. Robin thought it was a quite ambitious project we were setting out to do, combining several observation’s together with similar themes that we could meld together in an attempt to tell one cohesive story. We did not want to directly reenact these observations, instead taking out the major themes from each one and expanding a video from those, which in this case was based around an individual who uses clothing to display his unique personality, only to discover someone else is wearing the same clothes, causing them to question if they are just “normal”, while they see a truly unique person dancing in the streets, living their best life, not letting others insecure judgements impact their self confidence.
The filming process was great, we were all helping out and pitching ideas as it was evident we all wanted to make the best video possible. The lighter tone of the video definitely helped the vibe while we filmed, and sped up the process of planning the shots prior as well as establishing the tone of the video and keeping it consistent throughout filming. I was originally concerned with the size of our group and feared it would be too many people to handle, but it only added to the quality of the video, as we were all able to pitch different ideas that added something new to the video, while still being consistent as well all had similar vision of the end product for the video.
I greatly enjoyed the filming process for this project as too often in group creative projects each person has a completely different idea of the final product, but in this project we all in lockstep with what we were making, so there was very minimal arguments during the shoot. As we go into editing I’m really confident in how this video will turn out. I took it upon myself to focus on the sound of the video as well as helping out on the edit, and I’m confident I’ll be able to improve the video with my experience in audio and editing.
