A middle aged bald man, noticeably under the influence of something, staggers up to my car, something that unsettles me. He asks me for a drink, which he quickly follows up with a request for a lift for his friends, even though he was completely alone. He raises red flags for me immediately as I suspected that he was potentially trying to steal my car, but he clearly wasn’t in a state to do so aggressively. He did not seem like a dangerous person, which calmed me slightly. Fortunately, I was able to avoid any sort of confrontation and talk my way out of a potentially problematic situation. As I walked away from this man, while yes still concerned for my safety to a degree as I am a quite naturally paranoid , I also felt quite saddened by this man who has gotten himself into such a difficult place in his life that he was considering such a dire act.
