Week 5 Reflection/Analysis
Q3. From the week 4 lecture describe at least two reasons why we ‘shoot to edit’?
In the lecture it was discussed that we ‘shoot to edit’ for many reasons, this is two of them:
1. We ‘shoot to edit’ due to the desire to create atmosphere, notions and suggestions to the audience. If we are constantly filming every take for every scene we will end up with a whole bunch of raw footage that can be cut up and selected to go in certain places and times. This helps to manage the manipulation of film that helps create the feelings and messages that are desire to get across to the audience.
2. It is also important to ‘shoot to edit’ in respect of the sound of the film. Sounds within films are often not natural and are added in in post-production to add dramatic and stylistic effects to the film. If we’re shooting to edit the film, then the filming can be manipulated in a way that takes care of the fact that sound will later be added in to certain sequences, creating replacements or guidance for the shot/visuals.
