Tinder Loving Care

No, that’s not a typo. Tinder is the new dating app that has taken off, providing TLC to those everywhere experiencing the man/woman/partner/romance drought that is the 21st century. I was skeptical at first- a dating app? Aren’t there loads of those? This one however seems to be the talk of the town. The Guardian however sees it as it is- a ‘sex SatNav’….a device that uses GPS to scout out your next potential casual sex partner. How it works is by using your Facebook data, it can find people near you, tell you a bit about them, whether you have any mutual friends and show you a couple of photos.

I think it works better than other online methods as i’m old fashioned and do still believe you need to meet a person in the flesh to get to truly know them. Other dating applications often require you posting a profile, you know the space where you mention how you like long walks along the beach and are looking for that ‘special someone’, accompanied by a photograph of you from 5 years ago? Tinder cuts that part out. You don’t even have to list anything, just simply have it showing about 3-4 photos of yourself, and any of your mutual Facebook friends and ‘likes’. I think this is a much better concept, because this way, you have to actually meet up with the person and get to know their true self and not their perfect online self. However, with that being said, Tinder is suuuuuper judgemental. Given that you have so little personality information, it is without a doubt shallow. But, I do think that you can be slightly juding someone’s personality when you look simply at their photo. For example, I for one would not pursue a person with their photo being them shirtless in front of the mirror pouting. Personality? Self centred. A guy hanging out with his friends at a BBQ- Personality? Semi-normal, aka potential date. It’s a brutal world out there in dating land anyway, and if you aren’t going to like his Tinder photo you probably won’t like him in person anyway. So I think it’s a great idea as an icebreaker. However, i’m sure most girls would rather that good looking man at the bar to come up to you instead. But hey, that’s too much to ask in this day and age!
