Speculating about speculation

Adrian’s post about design fiction questions helped consolidate my understanding of design fiction. It made me realise, I am a huge speculator. I often ponder (or should I say, speculate) about the future, especially in terms of design fiction. I have thought before about what it would be like if someone invented some technology in my lifetime that meant no one died. What would that mean for society? We surely wouldn’t have enough resources to keep everything smooth sailing; but then again I suppose we have more people= more brains to come up with solutions.

I frequently seem to speculate about technologic advancement. I quiz my parents with comments like “don’t you find it like, AMAZING, how we have things like the internet now- when you only just got colour television when you were my age?” They sometimes are in awe of technology, but generally they are just immune to it. And so I speculate. Will I be immune to weird, innovative technology? Will my children laugh at the fact we used iphones, (since they will of course have their mobiles built in on their hands)?

Kicking it old school in the future. (Source: <http://www.usaukonline.com/technology/16405-talk-to-the-hand-the-1-000-mobile-phone-gloves-that-turn-your-hand-into-a-handset.html> )
