Premiere Pro Keyboard Shortcuts

Whilst I have some experience in working with Premiere Pro, there are still a number of aspects of the software that I have no idea how to use. One of these is the vast array of keyboard shortcuts available. Learning these can make my time in the edit suites much faster and much more efficient. If I spend less time setting up effects in a repetitive and time consuming way, I can spend more time considering the creative aspects of what I’m doing.

Undo

Shortcut: Shift +Cmd+Z

This one for me was a really helpful piece of information to discover. I’ve never been able to workout where the redo button on Premiere is located. I always knew that Undo was “Ctrl+Z”, yet never was able to take back that action if I decided to “undo my undo”, or “redo” a previous action.

Grouping and Ungrouping

Shortcut: (Cmd+G & Shift + Cmd + G)

This one will be a big advantage when working with overlapping clips. Often it is beneficial to have the audio of dialogue beginning to overlap another before you switch to a different shot, as it creates a more realistic conversation. Being able to do this quickly and efficiently will reduce the wasted time in the edit suites.

Effect Controls

Shortcut: (Shift + 5)

On my Premiere work space, the effect controls tab is located in the top left, and it can be a real problem to get to, since there is an ultimatum as to whether I can see the preview of a clip (obvious necessary) or the effect controls (also necessary). Being able to access the effect controls at a much faster pace will make this much less of a problem.
