My soundscape exercise outside the class start with birds singing. Parents with crying boy walking pass. Then, they decided to listen the speaker, which give a brief explanation about water. Then decided to take photo before they move on to the next gallery section.

I decided to visit the Melbourne’s Museum because one of my first impressions of it was that it is like entering into a very complex area with lots of different compartments and different accessories. The compound is located on top of a cliff with dramatic views, there is a private dock, there are endless secret tunnels and passageways and furthermore there is endless amounts of things that would excite anyone from a kid to an old man.

With regards to the actual gallery, there are 4 sections, while my main focus was on the forest gallery section. The meaning of my soundscape is to feel the Mother Nature because sometimes it’s nice to get away from the city and enjoy nature. Also, the people, the traffic, the crime – these are just some reasons why we might feel stressed out while living in a city.
The forest gallery has many different types of living plants and birds, I am able to recorded the sounds of water on the landscape, the role of plate tectonics in the evolution of plant species and the speaker of the exhibits are professionally done and brief enough to keep people’s attention.

After the end of the trip, when I looked back at my trip to the museum, I realized that I had learnt so much more about recording sounds. The museum sounds itself may not be many, however the materials that it contains clearly are special and not what we can hear everyday in the city.
