What are you interested in and why
I am interested in doing an investigation on water in film and television, and rain in film and television. I want to look at how ‘rain’ is shot, how the sound of it is recorded, how it is made and dealt with in post production also. I am interested in this because rain and water is something which is unique to shoot. It means different things, adds to a story line and can increase the quality of the production on a shoot. I think its important to investigate something natural that is shown often, and look into how it is shot and used. Filming a sequence of shots would be an interesting story to tell in showing rain and water in film.
What you will be investigating
I will be investigating water on camera and in audio. Not so much about how it is conveyed in film anymore, but about its sound and visual in film and the purpose of water in film and television, showing water through different ways such as rain, taps, hoses, puddles, drains. This will be done in a sequence of shots.
The vehicle which you are to do it
I believe making this project a series of shots or/and an investigation is a strong idea. I can research how rain is used in film, why it is, what it means/is used to convey and how it enhances/worsens a quality of film or shot. The series of shots could also look at how editing changes the way rain is seen, and what different types of editing does to the shot when rain is involved.
I will film at uni, at home, i think it’s nice to mix the filming up between a professional camera, and an iPhone which is more authentic in the environment it will be in.
