Expertise exercise reflection

In week 3, our Arfi and I edited and added audio to the footage we created earlier that week. Visually, the footage is good, the framing, lighting and colours all look efficient and complement what the action in the shot is. We matched the audio we created in line with the movements very well and nothing is out of place. However, there were some things which should have been attended to that i will elaborate on under each shot.

My epiphany with this cartwheel piece is that we really need to look at colour grading and exposure – if we did work on the colouring a bit, the lighting would be more creative. I would have also enjoyed learning this as a feature of premiere. We could have added some more audio to the piece – including a reaction, steps, wind, trees rustling.

This knocking piece is aesthetically pleasing, it is in a great location, with wide white walls and is an exciting place to shoot. However, again, it is over exposed. We alligned the knocking and steps perfectly, although we could have been more creative with the mode of the piece – we could have turned this shot into a scene from a horror movie, adding music, changing the colour grading, and giving it a gloomy feel.

In this piece, we found that you can use audio from a different object and it still can fit with the product – the audio is of different bushes being rustled but still works perfectly. I wish to explore this further and see how different sounds can be fooled into the same sound.

My moment of discovery would be the importance of exposure, and how you can make one film mean something else completely through editing. I also realise that using different audio from other objects is exciting and doesnt fool the audience. I wish to explore these more in the editing suites.
