Week 4 – H2N Sound Recording Exercise

For this sound recording exercise, we were in group of three interviewing each other. Personally, I think we did a better work for formal interview, because we were in a quite place and no one would disturb us. Hence, we could concentrate on our task and record it freely. On the other hand, during our informal interview, there were too much background noise where we went to a café. The noises made us hard to hear what were we speaking and in result of bad quality of recording.

I had lots of fun on doing the recorder. It reduced the noise around us and made us listening clearly on what we were talking through the headphone. As well, we could set the level on the recorder to make it louder or softer. However, I had a difficulty on setting the level. During our formal interview, for the first part, we had set the level correctly and had a good quality of work. However, during our second part, there were someone walking by, so we lower down the level to mute the noise. In the result, there were a big difference on level of volume between two parts. Yet, it wouldn’t be a serious problem as we could adjust it through Adobe Audition. For getting a “clean” sound, we did not have many problems on it. Initially, there were noise came out from the recorder and we found out that we could not be too close to the microphone. Then, we got the knack of getting the clean sound.

Overall, I was really enjoying in sound recording interview. This is my first time doing a recording interview and it sounds a bit weird when I heard my voice through the recorder. However, this exercise made me learn many techniques for recording and understand how to interview others. It gave a sense of how to interview for my project brief 3.
