Recording Place Log #11

The Story

Our storyline has changed a bit after the interviewing. Initially, in our thought, we wanted to present Mr. Huang’s passion for selling vegetables in Queen Victoria Market despite his advanced age but he had difficulty on counting the prices of the vegetables. However, after our interviewing, we realised we were wrong! Mr. Huang did not have difficulty on counting, moreover he was a Mathematic teacher back in China. Therefore, we discussed as a group and decided to change the story to focus on his illness. Mr. Huang had a heart bypass surgery and tongue operation. He had lots of medicine where he needs to eat everyday. Though he couldn’t stand for too long, he still intends to work for his son and daughter.

We rearranged and intended to create a 10-minute documentary. The plot starts with a prelap of Mr. Huang illustrating his daily schedule from home to the market where he wakes up at 3 am every morning and get the stall open before 8 am. Next, he talks about what he used to do and why he makes the decision to come to Australia.  He then talks about his trips back in China last year where he met his students in his hometown. At the highlighting part, he explains his illness and show us how many medicine he has. Lastly, he will tell us even though he knows he is old but he likes to go to the market place and make friends with the people there in order to keep him young at heart.

We then showed the story to Rohan. He told us that our film had too much details which were not necessary. Hence, we had to cut down some and here is our final plot.

  1. Early morning story
  2. Decision of coming to Australia (for a better life)
  3. Used to be a teacher and because his arthritis he had to quit
  4. Health problem (Couldn’t work)
  5. Working keeps him young at heart
