Week 4 

Today in the class, we showed Rohan the interview footage that we took yesterday. He pointed out one very serious problem which we did not put the mini microphone on Mr. Huang. In the result, the sound was not clear in addition there was a fan noise presented in the interview. Rohan was really disappointed about this mistake as it may ruin the whole film. Fortunately, our team member Jack was able to use software to get rid of the noise and we decided to put some background music to make it be more perfect. Especially thanks to Meg’s friend who supplied us the background music.

The storyline in the interview was different from what we expect initially. At first, we thought about Mr. Huang sharing the story about how he came from China to Australia and illustrated the difficulties he met in the market as he get older at the turning point. However, Mr. Huang mainly discussed about his illness such as arthritis and heart disease in the interview where he did not explain much about the difficulties in QVM. Hence, as discussed with Rohan we decided to change the storyline and focused on Mr. Huang’s illness in the film.

Next, we separated the team into 4 editing suites. Jack was on audio while Meg was on editing. As the interview was in Mandarin, we had to translate the footage into English. Even and I translated half of the interview while Denise and Lydia translated the other half. Translating was not an easy work to do. As Mr. Huang is from Guangdong where he mainly spoke Cantonese rather than Mandarin, he had an accent when he spoke Mandarin which was hard for me to understand some part of the interview. I had to listen again and again to understand what Mr. Huang wanted to tell us and then translated it into English. We spent the day translating and sub-titling and quickly transferred the files to Meg for editing. This shows how the collaboration worked between our team. I was so happy and fortunate to work with these lovely team members and I am really looking forward to see our final result.
