Interview with Mr. Huang
Today, we had an interview with Mr. Huang at his house. As Rohan said, we only need maximum of 3 members to do the interview, Jack, Even and I decided to take in charge of it. Jack and I met at RMIT to lend the equipment while Even met us at Mr. Huang’s place in Moonee Ponds. The weather was so hot and we had to walk for 10 minutes from the train station to Mr. Huang’s house. After we arrived, we pressed the door bell for 3 times and there was no one replied. We were so nervous because we had texted Mr. Huang before we departed and told him that we would be there soon, however he did not reply our message as well as the phone call. We tried and tried and finally Mr. Huang opened the door and welcomed us. (He said he fell asleep before we came so he didn’t hear the door bell ringing.)
We entered Mr. Huang’s house and found it kind of small but nifty. We quickly set up the camera with tripod and asked Mr. Huang to find a place which he felt comfortable to have the interview. Jack was on the camera, Even on the sound and I was the interviewer where I spoke to Mr. Huang in Mandarin while translating in English. Before interviewing, I had told Mr. Huang some instruction such us not look in camera directly and also answer in full sentence including the questions. However, when it started Mr. Huang forgot what I just told him and answered some of the questions in short sentence. The interview itself only took about 15 minutes while we spent most of time chatting with Mr. Huang and had some B-roll shooting. Mr. Huang was so kind that he showed us his albums before we asked from him and shared us the story about his trip back in China last year.
Overall, the interview ran smoothly and happily. Mr. Huang was really relaxed with the interview and he shared us many stories which we did not expect. Even though the storyline was not what we initially imagine, we decided to change it a bit and follow the story that Mr. Huang shared with us.
