Final Reflection

Time is really flying by. This semester has already come to the end. When I first came to the class, I had no idea what we were going to do for the course. But now, after twelve weeks, I am proud to say out” I am a media student”. I have learned a lot from the course and I really enjoyed in media though sometimes it may have tough time to pass.

What I’ve learned: Twelve weeks aren’t too short. I have learnt so much during this semester. The course was like the foundations of starting in Media. I have learnt about blogging, media theory, writing, media technique, and so on. The most valuable part for the course would definitely be the editing technique. Before I came to class, I had never heard about the software of Audition and Premier Pro. I struggled with the software for a couple of times, it was really frustrated that I knew what to do but didn’t know how to do. But now, I feel comfortable to edit for a better quality of work and I have a better skill on writing, filming, and editing. Compare the work between project brief 2 and project brief 3. For project brief 2, I only understood how to use the basic editing which result in a low quality of job. On the other hand, after couple times of practicing, I did a great job for my project brief 3 which I was satisfied with the result.

The other thing I learned from the course is collaboration. We had first listen to the lecture of collaboration from Rachel. I had understood how important collaboration is. If anyone in the group is not participate, it may ruin the whole group. Fortunately, I got my best teammates Stella and Grace who really take care me a lot. At first, I didn’t know what role should I be in the group and I am really thankful I got them to lead me from the start to get me go on the track. In our group, there is no job for individual, we did everything as a group. We met up twice or three times per week and no one was ever absent for the meeting. To have a great collaboration, communication is very important. Sometimes we were arguing with each other’s opinion but we overcome the problem through communication. We had a great attitude and we believe each other and I think it was the best group I ever had. The reflection for PB4 shows how we work together and how we collaborate efficiently.

How I’ve learned: Personally, practicing is the best way for me to learn from the course. As being a hyper attention student, it was hard for me to focus on the lecture and reading. I do rather than I listen. The lecture and reading could be a great reference for me but it was not the main way I learned from the course. After practicing for a period of times, I started to learn the media technologies and understand the technique for editing. Moreover, discussion in class is also playing in a significant role in my studying journey. I learned how to evaluate other’s work, as well listen to others. It is very important that you listen to other’s opinion and advise. It can make you improve and understand your weak point.

What I found most challenging: I found the most challenging at the beginning. As being an unsociable person, I was very afraid to come to a new environment. For the first few days of class, I was sitting alone at the back and didn’t know how could I get involved with the class. Also, I had a tough time of finding the way to learn the software. I had zero experience for the editing software and I really spent lots of time figure out how to use it. However, our project was due at first few weeks, and I was truly stressful at that moment.

What I discovered about my own creative practice: I’ve discovered that I’m full with interesting ideas. Every time when we got a new task, I would start to think what should I do and how to make it enjoyable for the viewers. For example, for the Fashion Killa, I was really excited to do with this project as I had many ideas on how to do with the Fashion and how can it be interesting. I did not plan too much on the project, I just did whatever that came to my mind and I’m very satisfied with the result. Others like, Haiku exerciseH2N Sound Recording ExerciseSony MC50 Interview Exercise and View of back would be the great evidence as well.

Overall, this is a very valuable course for me. In the half way of the semester, sometimes I would think about the question “Am I in the right course?”. After the twelve weeks of class, the answer would definitely be YES! And I am looking forward to the studios for next semester.
