In this week’s lecture, Rachel spoke about collaboration and teamwork for our further assessment and as well in the media industry. In my opinion, I think communication is a very important role in collaboration. As a team, we need to communicate, discuss and give each other opinions to aim a stronger piece of work. In the media industry, there are very few careers that work without a team. Therefore, collaboration is a basic skill that we have to learned at the beginning.
Rachel also spoke about the good experience and bad experience for collaboration. Personally, I had a bad experience for group work when I was in high school. The group members did not work collaboratively as they were too rely on the leader that was me. I ended up spending days and days doing every work for the members and yet we all got the same mark. This was really unfair but I couldn’t do anything for it. “Leader” plays a very significant role in the group. The leader should lead the member to work collaboratively or the project dies because no one ‘owns’ it. Hence, I think I am failed at the part of leadership and I have to learn more about how to be a good leader.
On the other hand, there are many positive points for working as a group. For instance, in a group, we are able to share ideas and solve the problems quickly. If we are working individually, we always get stuck at a problem and no one can help you. But as a group, we can discuss about the problem and get the solution fast from other teammates. Hence, the speed of collaboration can get the project done faster. Furthermore, as a team, we can get the support and inspiration from other members. Besides, we can encourage our teammates if they meet struggles to help them get over the difficulties.
As for the project brief 4, we are going to be assigned randomly to group as a team. I am a bit afraid that if I don’t work with people that I know, it is going to be awkward between the team members. However, as Rachel said, you can not expect who are you going to work with in the future. There are always having new friends waiting for you. We need to be respect to any people who comes to our team and we need to work collaboratively. I am looking forward to see my teammates for PB4 in workshop. I hope we will able to share our ideas and create the best piece of work for the project.
