Being a human in 21st century, I found out that social media play in a significant role in our society. Social media has taken over the world like a storm. As more people in various distant parts of the world communicate and learn about the world through social media, more electronic devices that creates greater accessibility to it is being created. Now I want to list down some points after researching.

One of the major positive effects of social media is the worldwide connectivity. No matter where we are, we can easily find others via social media. Social media like Facebook allows people to find their old friends or friends who have lost touch with one another by simply searching for their names in the social network. In addition, apart from keeping in touch with friends, many social networks allow people to meet strangers virtually, therein expanding their social circle which includes meeting people from different countries. An instance will be the social network, LinkedIn, which is a platform for professionals to meet one another and form business ties. It allows people to source for business advice from experts while building a friendship.

Despite all the advantages of Social Media, there are some disadvantages to social media. The common observation is the excessive consumption of time and the distraction it creates for people. Nowadays, people are easily distracted by social media. People often pause their current activity to attend to other social networking activities.

I had done a little research in my high school on how many hours do people spend on social media per day. And the outcome shows that most of the people spend up to 5 hours on social media per day which include myself as well. It results in a serious problem for our society especially teenagers and some schools even complain that students are lack of discipline and waste too much time on social media channels instead of focusing on their studies.

In my opinion, I think no one can ignore the fact that in today’s world social media is a very important medium for communication. However, we have to use social media in the right way and reduce the time spending on it. Social media is important but our current work is more important than that.
