Week 5 – Sony MC50 Interview Exercise

  • What problems did you encounter?

Firstly, we had overlooked the part of reaction from the interviewer. After went back to the class, we discussed with Brain and we had him to do a short part of reaction for the interview. Secondly, we decided to do the interview in a small tiny studio. As the studio was too small, we were easily see the reflection of the person who was holding the camera. To overcome this, we changed various angles and find the best way to shot. Lastly, we were actually running out of time where we did not take interviewee in action shot. Hence, we decided to take a shot of interviewee opened the door and welcomed the interviewer and camera man.

  • What were your most successful shots?

I think the most successful shot was the part of shooting the second interviewee. We managed to take both part of medium shot and close-up shot to show how the interviewee expressed his reaction and emotion.

  • What did you discover about camera technique?

I had learned that we had to put the interviewee at the side of the frame instead of in the centre. It created a feeling of balance for the audience where we did not look straight to the interviewee. Also, I discovered that if we put the camera higher than the interviewee, the interviewee would look smaller in the screen. On the other hand, if we put the camera lower than the interviewee, the interviewee would look bigger.
