Editing was easier than I had initially imagined. Since we gave each other so much creative discretion, I imagined that we would end up with a crazy amount of clips but we had shot with purpose and most of our shots were amazing. While not all of our best shots made the cut, those edits were necessary as some shots did not fit into the storyline. There were some shots and transitions we were not too sure of but decided to add them in and allow the class to intervene and comment. We wanted the forest to seem almost dream like and her reality is the house. We tried to achieve this by showing comparisons of the same movements in the house and also in the forest. We wanted her mind to be wandering, while her body remains in the same place. While this sequence is only a rough cut, the girls and I really like its progression and do not see ourselves making big changes. We have to definitely work on the audio, increasing the sound of atmos and layering more audio tracks.

In class we watched everyone rough edits and seeing the diversity of styles and stories was really enlightening. Everyone took what we learnt in the studio and transformed it to create very unique and interesting short films. No ones films were like the other and our individual styles shines through.

After showing our edit, we asked the other class members what they thought of certain shots we weren’t sure of. We asked whether or not more shots should be stabilised but everyone liked the handheld scenes, as it looked like it was from the actors point of view. They seemed to love the transitions we thought might not make sense in the story, but they reassured us that they were necessary. We left class more confident in our work and sure of what had to be done before we submitted the final work.
