The process of recording an audio essay was more complicated than I imagined.

  1. We needed to write the script
  2. We needed to find a suitable time to record
  3. we needed a suitable place to record

Amelia volunteered to write the bulk of the script and asked us to edit and add anything required. We loved the script so no changed were required but then we had to face the problem of working around each others schedules to record the script. We finally made time and met up to record and I was blindsided by another factor. We would have to take on the roles of radio presenters and record our own voices! my expressively inept self was not pleased by this revelation. On a scale of emotional expression ranging from 0-10 I average about a 3. I can basically express sadness, happiness, annoyance etc but with limited facial expressions so asking me to ‘act’ and be a radio personality goes beyond my range. I tried my best but I know my weaknesses more than anybody else so I volunteered for the part with the least dialogue. This is also an apology letter for my group members who have amazing vocal talents, I apologise for my lack of. If its any conciliation, I tried but like I said not very successful. In a non self hate way my voice is so boring and lacking of emotion that when I brought a small pot plant, the worker at Bunnings suggested I sing to it, my dad said the plant would die… I was 6 then and nothing has changed.

Now in terms of location, we decided that the quietest place would obviously be the editing suites. What we did not realise was that audio recorders detect a lot of sound, even ones we are not aware of like the buzz of the computer. Since our ears block out a lot of unnecessary noise, we had no clue that our audio would be disrupted by the tech noises in the suites. Amelia tried her best to save the footage but we could not so we decided to record it one more time as the sound was too obvious to ignore.

We learnt many things during the process of this project brief, both as a group member and as an individual. Each of us are contributing differently to this project, perhaps not exactly equally but equal in the sense that we each bring different ideas and we all have different strengths and weaknesses. I do not think its possible for three people to be doing one project and each part equally, there are those who know more than you and its an upside to being in a group, we learn more with others and through our peers!
