This project brief was by far the most challenging. I struggled with finding a subject, as I worried that by interviewing a stranger I would not have enough footage. I noticed that by planning out everything and stressing, I affected the response of the subject. A usually confident person, Ayse struggled in front of the camera. We had many takes as she stuttered and fidgeted. I was extremely tired on the day we filmed and my mood negatively affected hers. Once I looked back at the footage I noticed there was a lot of things I did not like, particularly her responses to the questions I asked. That is my fault as the interviewer, I am responsible for asking leading questions. Since I know Ayse so well, I felt as though I could not capture her personality on camera.

The most successful part of this project was the planning. I planned everything well but the execution was what I failed at. I could not record her at the angle i wanted due to the lighting and that was the first sign of bad luck for the day. I have to learn how to shoot effectively and time efficiently. I should have called her out to a location instead of filming in her bedroom. I wasted time both setting up and also conversing.

Although I sent the interview questions ahead of time, Ayse still felt odd and out of place. I believe the results would have been different had the questions been spontaneous, as she would concentrate on answering rather than thinking of the camera. Debriefing is important but I should not have told her the way I wanted the video to be. My own thoughts shaped her understanding of the questions and in turn her answers.

It was a very rewarding learning experience, as I experimented with using a tripod, a camera and also a microphone. The microphone was difficult to operate while trying to film and listen at the same time. A microphone that connects to the camera is best to use for future projects.

The interview process is difficult and as a media operator I need to learn how to work with people and understand them in order to produce media content that does justice to them. I need to establish a work ethic that is different to my personal ethics.
