How are stories told? How are these narratives translated into different languages for audiences from different countries?
The key elements of a story must contain:
- controlling idea
- character
- conflict
- structure
- character change/growth
As a lover of languages and different cultures, I immerse myself in narratives and stories from all over the world. I spend an unhealthy amount of times watching tv shows and films from countries like Japan, China, Korea, France, United Kingdom… I have seen how different countries incorporate the elements of a story for their audience.
Asian stories typically focus on revenge, family, crazy mother in laws and each episode contains action shots, lots of staring and dramatic music. While the popularity of said shows vary across the continent, the controlling ideas are almost identical.
On the other hand, Western and European shows focus more on supernatural themes and politics.
