The first two weeks of my second semester at uni will be spent working outbound on assignments from a military base in rural Victoria. Although I can’t comment on the class activities, I have spend ALLOT of time unpacking the readings.

I chose this studio because documentary film-making excites me. I believe documentaries can make viewers think and feel in a certain ways and shape the public’s opinion about truth. Because Documentary is becoming an increasingly popular genre, film-makers could potentially now hold the power to influence our cultural ideologies and social opinions.

My understanding of collaboration is working in a group of two or more where everyone is able to be of equal value and valued equally. It’s really important to listen to one another and be malleable when things change. I experience working collaboratively daily. At work I’m in a team that offers command support to another division and at university I’ve worked in groups and on teams to bring projects to life. What I’ve learnt from these experiences is that I can contribute my organisational skills and passion for learning to assist the team in reaching our end goal. Specifically for this semester, my background in film-making and prior documentary studies could prove to be an asset.

By then end of semester I want to improve my technical film-making on the adobe suite. Another goal of mine is to really engage with the research process behind documentary film-making. In the past I haven’t spent allot of time plotting and planning before I film a shot, scene, interview etc. I think taking the time to develop tools that make research more efficient will benefit anything I create in the future.

I’m beyond excited to be collaborating with my classmates and the museum to create work that could challenge or transform the public’s world view.
