What did I learn from the Lenny?
I think it was very important to do the Lenny as I learnt a lot of things that I would have previously not even thought about.
1. TIME MANAGEMENT! I was unaware as to how long it would take to set up, monitor noise levels (we were outside and next to a very busy construction site), and how fast time went by. We wanted to ensure we had all the angles right, lighting and of course that the scene went according to the script!
2. Planning a storyboard was one of the most valuable things we could have done, simply because we knew exactly what we were doing and what we had to do,
3. Having the role of director, something that I have never done before, meant that I had quite a lot to do, therefore this exercise allowed me to test the waters so to speak, and gave me an idea of some the jobs that fall into my department.
4. We were really lucky to have friends that were able to help us out with the shoot, but organising them, giving them direction and a brief was also very difficult yet important to learn.
I am very thankful that we did have the lenny as a sort of “Test run” before doing our own film, as what was learnt was incredibly beneficial.
