Reflection of the tutorial and unlecture

Being the first week back, I didn’t really know what to expect from my subjects. I was basing my assumptions on the idea that they were part 2 of the subjects I took in semester 1. This, to an extent is true from what I have gathered so far, after the first lecture (unlecture) in Networked media.
During the break I went and checked out what it was that each subject expected and what the course outline was, and it is safe to say that confusion is the only word that could explain what I felt.
A blog? But I haven’t ever used a blog! How are they meant to assess us? This must just be an optional task for those high achievers out there!
But no, as Adrian explained, networked media follows a “speculative curriculum”, and as I pondered this for the next couple of days, I realised and finally understood what he meant (is this a good excuse for having my posts up so late?)
Everything is online now. There is very little you can’t do or get online. Blogs may, in the future, potentially be the new means in which magazines or newspapers are read. Will diary sales plummet drastically as a cause of blogs? Potentially.
One thing I need to remember is that everything I publish is public forever, and I need to think of my blog as a reputation network- which is extremely important given that many employers do their research before hiring you, and what I may or may not publish has the power and possibility to affect this.

My technical worries were eased in the tutorial where the semester’s assignments and tasks were discussed and explained in more detail, and we were given a “blogging for dummies” quick lesson, where the who, how, what, where and why’s were addressed.
I successfully changed my password, learnt my url, and began experimenting with themes and headers (insert applause).
By nature, I am a very lazy person. Perhaps lazy is the wrong choice of word. Perhaps, last minute is more appropriate. And although I will not have the option of leaving all my work till the last week…no I didn’t do that last semester…I am almost sure I will leave my weekly blog posts to the last nights. (Exhibit A this week).
Yes, it is not ideal, however, hopefully, I will be able to change my learning style with this subject and show a change throughout the semester-and hopefully sooner rather than later.
