This week was a big week, it was filming Week . On Monday we went and visited the locations we were going to shoot. When visiting the race course we discovered the tunnel we planned to shoot in was shut for renovation, though luckily we found an even cooler-looking tunnel so that was quickly remedied. When it came to actual filming, we spent a lot of time on the first day adjusting and messing around with equipment which ended up being quite time-consuming and led to us filming less than we’d like. I also had a lot of trouble getting my lines right and not messing up. Towards the end of the day, we had to very quickly film at Brighton Beach as the scenes had to take place before the sunset, this mad rush was quite stressful as if we didn’t get the scenes done we would have had to add a whole other day of filming due to the fact we had to return the equipment at 4 the next day. In the end, though I think the scenes at the beach are the strongest in our film and where I got comfortable on camera.
On the 2nd day of shooting, it mostly went a lot smoother as we now were able to use the boom mic instead of LAVs due to us all not being in the scene. The boom mic if you ask me was far superior to the LAVS and honestly, I am a bit worried about the sound quality, though it was out of our control. During the filming we had to change a lot of the planned shots on the fly as we found it was just too hard or time-consuming to make them possible, while this was disappointing, from the few clips I have seen we still have some great visuals, especially Giorgio taking the plunge fully clothed at Brighton Beach.
Overall this week in comparison to my film project last semester went very smoothly and I enjoyed it much more, mainly due to the fact we were all constantly collaborating and putting forward ideas on the fly which without jinxing it I think is going to lead to a strong final product. I think editing will be the hardest part, especially in ensuring the comedy gets fully conveyed, but I’m looking forward to seeing it all come together.
