Major Media Reflection 1

Mood Board

I’ve included a few of “Almost Friday’s” skits as I think they are probably the best online comedy group right now, they remind me a bit of Lonely Island on snl, making pretty high-quality skits that often don’t go where you expect. This one for example starts off as an average skit but then turns into a parody on the high production value HBO ‘making of’ episodes where they essentially gas up themselves for the shows they have made

This one is a pretty unique skit, that tells a story through fake Netflix movies, I really like comedy that pushes the boundaries of the genre and does more experimental kinda stuff

This is another parody-based skit this time on hidden camera prank tv shows, A lot of these guys’ skits end up having a surprising emotional core which I think adds to the comedy.

Game Night is one of my favourite comedy films as it goes above and beyond in terms of the production quality you would expect from a comedy, with these really cool board game transitions and a very well-made one-take sequence in the middle of the film. I think comedy is often seen as a lazier genre so the movies that put the effort in while still being funny stick out the most to me.

overall when it comes to my comedic tastes I like the more experimental comedies or the comedies that aren’t content just to be simple comedies, obviously there are some great comedies that are all about the jokes but after a while they can get a little stale, though I have a soft spot for parodies in particular though I also think they are often the easiest to make and generate humour from which I’d prefer a little more of a challenge for my media project.

INITIAL IDEAS AND THE FIRST WEEK

The first week of my groups work went really well in my opinion, we all have similar tastes and want to make something we can be proud of, in the discussions we had it was pretty much non stop bouncing ideas off each other which is a pretty good sign and I am excited to see what comes next.

In terms of our initial idea, we first discussed making an anthology of skits that would be connected through an idea or character (much like I think you should leave) though after a discussion with Bradley we thought of the idea to have a comedy that is similar in structure to Rashomon, where it’s a singular story or event told through multiple perspectives, from there we had a heap of ideas to play with, such as having each character’s perspective be a different type of comedic form, to playing up the idea of a mockumentary only to reveal it was just one character’s drug addled hallucinations. Though we have yet to settle on a fully solid idea, we have created a strong foundation to build on in my opinion.
