there is no centre. but hubs matter. And hubs are defined by how many connections i have. in and out.
google has the largest search engine because there are so many people connecting to it. much like a popular person who knows everyone.

The internet is not virtual.
server farms are used by google to get energy from hydro dams.
bandwidth uses electricity.
nothing virtual about any of it.
