During Monday’s class, we saw a previous student’s screen project example titled ‘Ice Cube’ by August Yu, and that kind of inspired me to brainstorm and think a little deeper as to what I want to make. I too have the idea of filming something really simple and adding a somewhat “poetic/metaphorical” narration behind it. I must admit that I’ve always preferred a “good” storyline with simple visuals rather than the opposite. I used to always think that a “good” video requires THE BEST shots filmed using THE BEST equipment and gear necessary for it to be “picture perfect”. But what the pandemic has taught me in terms of filmmaking is… SCRATCH THAT IDEA! Although sometimes, I think that the current situation puts me at a disadvantage, such that it limits my creative freedom, and minimizes, if not annihilates, any possible opportunities to shoot videos which I originally had in mind. But what I soon learn is that, while it may pose challenges and confines me in this imaginary box inside the walls I call home, it somehow requires me to think out of the box. Though I might not have a crystal clear idea of what I’m going to be making, I think that the quote below is well said.
