Melbourne is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. It is a place where many seek out their dreams, and is densely populated with humans of great similarities and great differences.
In just a one hour period spent in one of Melbourne’s peak populous locations on Swanston Street many things can be noted, mostly and surely that media is a huge dominate force which many consumers do not even realise is present.
The corporate buildings rounding out the land scape,  the sea of antennas transmitting and receiving media forms, and security cameras monitoring each and every passer by.  Brand name clothes worn on every third individual, sporting their favourite sporting brand, clothing brand, skate brand what have you all showing off a company’s logo’ed media everywhere they walk. Individuals passing by their time indulging in various media forms whether it be laying down reading a book to checking their social media sites through to listening to their favourite musical artist. Shopping bags full of goods purchased by near by shops shouting out to anyone who sees the holder, saying I bought from this store and so should you.
Food is a major corner stone of not just Melbourne life but life globally this is reflective by the representation of food on both trams, windows, flyers what have you, all are presenting their product as being the healthiest, the yummiest or the very best. From the blatant “the burgers are better at hungry jacks” accompanied by the large representations of their burger range on their window, through to the healthy subs from subway appearing on the cities trams.
All of the inundations combining on one location, to which on the after noon of observation was playing host to a Free Tibet protest, which in  itself brought about media further bombarding the consumers, both initiatively and unintentionally. From having a young, innocent looking Tibetan child handing out flyers, through to the traditional tibetan chants and songs. The landscape was sprinkled with yet another cultural element, which in itself brought various media forms along with it.
From where we sat at the state library the city sounded a buzz, a buzz of traffic, human conversation, and Tibetan cultural song. It somehow encapsulated both mono toned bleakness and eyecatching colour. While each and every piece of media surrounding you asking you and inviting you to consume in it.
Whether it be food, to purchase a certain brand, think a certain way, act a certain way, or conform to a certain subculture. The city is awake, and buzzing with both cultural and media diversity.
