Hi there!
My first session in “The News is a joke” studio was like what I expected in some ways and what I didn’t expect in others. It included multiple screenings of famous Youtube News Comedy videos, so as to set the tone of the class and help us aim towards a certain standard of delivering News Comedy segments. Stephen Colbert and John Oliver are considered the best in this field of work and I aspire to be as charismatic as they are in delivering information to the public, while making them laugh! This, also, shows that these shows are heavily dependent on the host’s personality. Personally, that provided a much needed insight into the substance of this studio as I was somewhat ignorant to the mechanism of such shows. The famous ‘talk-to-the-people-sitting-next-to-you-and-discuss-the-prompt’ technique, though awkward, aided in exposing me to further information and eye-opening ideas regarding the increasing availability of ‘News’ to the public and the way they’re consumed. Back to where I come from, people tend to avoid news as a whole, because they’re found to be depressing. So, a comedic, light-hearted approach to them is REVOLUTIONARY. Consequently, news will be shared, rather than being avoided like the plague! Moreover, this increases public awareness and knowledge, and that empowers nations into overcoming life-altering issues that they were merely unknown to them. All in all, this is what drove me into choosing this studio and this is what will drive me into succeeding in it.
