Media 5 – Tutorial #1 – Reflection

Media 5 appears to be exactly what I thought it would be, and exactly what I wanted. This first class got the ball rolling by giving us EX3s and sending us on our way to block out a scene. I was pushed into the deep end and loved it. If there was one quarrel I had with FILM-TV 2, it was that it was all theory right up to the end. While this is completely beneficial for education and learning, it was a bit too monotonous for my liking. So, here is Media 5! I really hope that this semester will be really great! I am in a class with a lot of people I know and have worked with before, so I believe we will all work together smoothly and create some great film.

In the Wednesday class, we had a look at scenes that 4 different groups had blocked and rehearsed with only a script to go on. This was a really great task and we had some pretty different and interesting responses to the material. It goes to show how ingenuity and auteurism will always create something new, interesting and blocking that you wouldn’t really imagine as an individual auteur. This really opens up the possibilities to explore different styles and methods of attacking situations involving on-the-spot problem solving or construction of a scene. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next class.
