Pre-production week began by drawing our ideation of our biggest, big, and small elements of our concepts for both pieces into the logistics and production schedule. For our first piece, with a focus on nature, we’ve planned to film at the Botanical gardens and along the Yarra River, as they sit on the periphery of Fed square. We won’t require permission to film at these places, allowing us to consider the smaller elements of our pieces through storyboarding and how we could film shots of i.e., water ripples and native plants, to reflect on the significance of Indigenous land. As this will be an ambient piece, we’ll book a zoom microphone to capture ambient sounds, as well as a Sony FS5 4K camera for filming to Fed square’s standards which we’ve assigned a role for booking.
As for our second piece, focusing on old and new architectural patterns in Melbourne, we’ve planned to film at Fed square, State Library, and the NGV, which all require permission to film with a tripod. An issue that arose was with permission, as the NGV is connected to Fed square, so we assumed permission from Fed square would extend to its connected places. We’ve had to apply for permission to film at the NGV and State Library, and hope this doesn’t interfere with our plans to film next week. Fortunately, our filming meets with the Safety requirements, which will make filming smoother and give us time to collate our ideas further. Our main filming day will take place on Wednesday, and we’ve created a production schedule to follow for filming throughout the day, starting at Fed square and ending at Queen Vic gardens. Pre-production week has highlighted the importance of preparation, as there are things to consider in advance and I would allow more time before filming moving forward.
