Story Lab [part 6]: Short-Story Feedback

Receiving feedback on my short story was very interesting, and it helped me feel confident in my fictional writing abilities again (after a long break from creative writing).

After finishing my story I was fairly happy with it and I thought that it flowed well and progressed in a fairly understandable and logical manner. HOWEVER, I had spent more than a day working on it, so my perspective on this matter could have been somewhat biased due to my closer ‘relationship’ with the characters and story I had created.

This meant that I couldn’t be 100% certain that others would actually understand or even enjoy the story and scenario that I had put together. Thankfully, based off the feedback I received it seems that I was successful in keeping things simplistic and coherent enough for others to understand.

It was nice to know that I had been (somewhat) successful in creating a flowing and easy to read story. My main concern when I submitted the piece was that by jumping back and forth between character backstory and the present, I would disorientate the reader. However Holly’s feedback relieved this concern, as it seems like my weaving back and forth in time worked out reasonably well.

It was also satisfying to hear that the humour I’d tried to thread throughout the story was well received.
