Recently, I bought a slow mo camera. I figured it would good to use for this project. I did a couple of test shots which I showed to my group, to which I received a positive response.
When I wrote the script, I wanted to try and get a slow motion ignition in somewhere, and so added a part where they light a fire, and brought up the idea to my fellow group members. One aspect I completely forgot about in this type of shot was the smoke. Initially, I was just picturing a bright orange flash on the screen, and a slow flicker of the dancing fire. But when I looked at the test shot, it was a nice surprise when I saw how awesome the smoke looked, and how it added a cool ass effect. I ended up trying the shot again, but in a dark room.
Again, I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at the result. As a group, we had the idea of making this effect the opening of one of the chapters.
